"Why does Japan need startups?"
How many people today can answer this question with conviction?
"Why does Japan need startups?"
How many people, right now, can answer this question with conviction?
The startup bubble that once took the world by storm around 2020 has burst,
and since then, through rapid changes in the macro environment,
and structural changes in the growth environment for startups,
the environment surrounding startups may no longer be described as optimistic.
The startup bubble that once took the world by storm around 2020 has burst,
and since then, through rapid changes in the macro environment,
and structural changes in the growth environment for startups,
the environment surrounding startups may no longer be described as optimistic.
However, the entrepreneurial spirit of those who continue to take on challenges has not disappeared.
Rather, after a major wave of renewal, a new generation of startups is emerging, built on the strengths of a“New Japanese Style.”
However, that does not mean the entrepreneurial spirit of those taking on challenges there today has disappeared.

However, the entrepreneurial spirit of founders taking on challenges there has not disappeared.
Rather, through a major cycle of renewal, next-generation startups are emerging
on a foundation of the strengths of a "new Japanese style."
Startups, in every era,
have been expected to act as agents of structural transformation against the backdrop of economic challenges and social demands.
In the modern age, startups are not merely innovators.
Going beyond market principles, they solve economic and social issues and elevate Japan’s presence in the international community
as they seek to be reborn as entities that can prove it once again.

In the modern age, startups are not merely innovators.
Going beyond market principles, they are seeking to reinvent themselves as entities that solve socioeconomic issues and once again demonstrate Japan’s presence to the international community.

Just as Japanese companies once made their mark on the world, it is time to take the world by storm again.

Startup stakeholders, established companies, investors, aspiring entrepreneurs, supporters, government bodies, research institutions, and students—everyone involved in creating the next generation is included.

IVS CORE
at Hotel Okura
An invitation-only area where the key players shaping the future of Japanese startups gather.
Target audience: People who can shape the future of industry through their own decision-making.
This is a forum where leading executives and investors on the front lines of the industry gather to discuss the key agenda items for Japan’s startup ecosystem. What matters most is “what gets decided.” It is also a place where fundraising negotiations and decisions, as well as intercompany transactions, take place actively—creating tangible business value. Participants are expected to include startup executives who can shape the future of industry through their own decision-making; financial institutions, institutional investors, and asset owners; senior executives of major corporations and heads of operating companies; government and policy stakeholders; and researchers and members of academia.

A gateway for the next generation of entrepreneurs. One of Japan’s largest pitch contests, now in its 20th year. Producing alumni with more than 60 exit companies and over ¥300 billion in total funding raised. The winner can receive up to ¥10 million (Startup Kyoto International Award). SIDE EVENTS
in various locations throughout Kyoto City
Hundreds of events take place throughout the city of Kyoto... no, all across Japan.
This is a place where the energy of “I want to talk more” and “I want to do something together” that emerges over the three days of IVS can be turned directly into action. Themes that there isn’t enough time for in the main program can be continued in small-group, deep-dive sessions hosted by highly specialized communities.
