KYOTO ZONE

An area where Kyoto's leading companies, universities, and financial institutions gather

to showcase Kyoto as a deep tech hub

This year's theme is "Practicality"

What are IVS OFFICIAL SIDE EVENTS?

What are IVS OFFICIAL SIDE EVENTS?

Rather than sessions where people just listen or poster exhibitions where they just look, this will be a place to touch products, sparking business discussions and co-creation on the spot. How much practical benefit can everyone—from IVS participants to Kyoto's startups, small-and-medium enterprises, large corporations, researchers, and universities—gain through IVS? This is the kind of venue we aim to create.

FEATURE

The Three Pillars of "KYOTO ZONE"

01

Discover the Sources of Deep Tech

Discover the Sources of Deep Tech

In collaboration with Kyoto University Innovation Capital, which supports startups leveraging the advanced research achievements of Kyoto University and national universities, we have prepared sessions that showcase the strength of Kyoto's research foundation. These include management strategies aimed at the global expansion of deep-tech startups originating in Kyoto, a "Shibuya vs. Kyoto" debate comparing the ecosystems of the East and West, and a reverse pitch titled "Kyoto: The Capital of Venture," where large corporations present challenges to startups.

02

Matching Large Enterprises and Startups

Matching Large Enterprises and Startups

The "Kyoto Qualia Forum," which includes Shimadzu Corporation, SCREEN Holdings, Kyocera, Sanyo Chemical Industries, Horiba, and Murata Manufacturing, is also participating. Through this reverse pitch, we will create opportunities for major corporations gathered in Kyoto to connect with startups from Japan and abroad. We also plan to hold sessions that delve into which capital to partner with and which exits to target, such as "Deep Tech Growth Capital Strategies to Win Globally."

03

Prototyping and Manufacturing Collaboration with SMEs

Prototyping and Manufacturing Collaboration with SMEs

One of Kyoto's major strengths is the concentration of manufacturing SMEs with high technological capabilities. 'Kyoto Shisaku Net,' a gathering of these key players, participates to support prototype and manufacturing collaborations for deep tech startups. Under the theme 'Crossing the Valley of Death with Kyoto's Fastest Prototyping,' we will introduce a collaborative model that connects research seeds to commercialization and mass production.

The content industry as well

Kyoto's strengths are not limited to manufacturing. The content industry, including movies, anime, and games, is also a field that Kyoto is proud to present to the world.

This year, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Uzumasa, the birthplace of cinema associated with Toei and Shochiku, we will hold a special pitch contest that combines the content industry with cutting-edge technology. This event will bring together startups working to sophisticate and streamline content production using AI and other technologies.
